Help find a situation of ethics in Catcher in the Rye?
Holden is always complaining about the "phoniness" of adults. He doesn't like them because he believes they are hypocritcal, saying one thing and acting another. They act in superficial greetings that are a part of being able to get along in society. Holden doesn't want anything to do with it, but in order to be a grown-up, you have to do this. However, Holden is also a hypocrite. He thinks people should always be honest, but, for example, when he meets his clmate's mother (forgot the name), he lies about what a great guy he is, when in reality, he is a complete jerk. Holden also lies about having to go somewhere when he sees his brother's ex-girlfriend because he doesn't want to deal with her. These are a few examples. Hopefully, you can think of more on your own.
