What really happens to child molesters in prison? Is it the same for rapists?

I'm in the military and we conducted an exercise at a prison which revolved around a riot operation....we were inside the prison with the various inmate in the different cell blocks.The child molesters are NOT with the general population (gen pop)..they are in a different a special cell block where they spend time mostly alone.Anyone who thinks these guys are getting *** d on a daily basis have watched too much tv and movies....although I wish that was the case.
