I'm writing a science fiction story?

There is nothing to distinguish these two sentences as sci fiction, mystery, contemporary, romance or paranormal. You can see lights anywhere and in any genre of writing. You can have very bright lights surround you in any genre. You can FEEL spinning in any genre. New York the way you described it is identifiable as any traditional big city.
