Does this sound like whooping cough to you?

about 2 and a half weeks ago I thought i was getting a cold. Sore throat, cough, stuffy nose..phlegm in my throat. etc..my husband got it all too...but then the cough and phlegm got a lot worse and sometimes I go into a coughing fit and I can't breathe and i make this sound as i gasp for air...my best friend pointed out that she had whooping cough and thats what it sounds like i have..no cough syrup, cough drops or anything helps..it is worse when I am laying down. my breathing sounds rhaspy and i have asthma too..i went to the e.r the other day but I was there for a long period of time without being seen bc they were so busy and to my surprise i wasn't coughing or anything there so i just left...I plan to go again and ask them to test me for whooping cough but i'd like opinions first...do you think that sounds like what I have?
